Bayer Leverkusen managed to maintain their lead in the German Bundesliga with a thrilling 2-2 draw against the hosts, Bayern Munich, in the fourth round of the German league.


The match kicked off at 9:30 PM Cairo and Saudi Arabia time at Bayern's stadium, the Allianz Arena.


Harry Kane, the Bayern striker, opened the scoring in the 7th minute of the first half, but Alex Grimaldo equalized for Leverkusen in the 24th minute of the same half, resulting in a 1-1 tie.


The deadlock persisted into the second half until Leon Goretzka gave Bayern the lead in the 86th minute, only for Leverkusen to equalize again through Alasios in the 94th minute, concluding the match with a thrilling 2-2 draw.


Bayer Leverkusen now stands at 10 points, retaining the top spot on goal difference over their runner-up, Bayern Munich, who also have 10 points in the Bundesliga standings.


Bayern Munich is set to face English side Manchester United next Wednesday in the opening match of this year's UEFA Champions League group stage.


Meanwhile, Bayer Leverkusen is heading to the UEFA Europa League to face Swedish side Hacken in the group stage opener next Thursday.
